What are veneers?

Veneers are thin shells made of porcelain or composite resin that bond to the front surfaces of teeth to improve their appearance. They’re custom-made to fit the exact shape and size of your teeth, ensuring that they blend in seamlessly with your smile.

Veneers can correct many cosmetic imperfections, including:

  • Chips and cracks
  • Gaps in between teeth
  • Misshapen or uneven teeth
  • Overly long or short teeth
  • Discoloration

These durable covers protect teeth from further damage and enhance their strength.

What does getting veneers involve?

Getting veneers typically takes at least two visits. The first is a consultation with Dr. Ilyabayev to determine if you’re a candidate for veneers. During this visit, he might clean your teeth and take digital X-rays.

He then prepares your teeth for the veneers. Dr. Ilyabayev removes about five one-hundredths of a millimeter (about two one-thousandths of an inch) of enamel to make room for the restorations, ensuring that they blend in with the rest of your teeth.

Finally, he takes digital impressions of your teeth to create your veneers and places temporary restorations to protect them.

Dr. Ilyabayev places your veneers at the final visit. After removing the temporary shells, he places your permanent veneers, makes any necessary adjustments, and cements them in place.

Are veneers permanent?

Veneers are permanent because they change the shape and structure of your teeth. However, they usually need to be replaced every 10-15 years. While veneers bond to your teeth, they can crack under pressure.

Schedule regular dental exams with Dr. Ilyabayev to receive personalized care tips. Proper care of veneers can extend their lifespan for a complete cosmetic makeover that lasts decades.

Can you eat anything with veneers?

You can eat most foods with veneers, but taking precautions can help protect your teeth. Avoid biting on hard objects like candy, popcorn kernels, and ice. If you’re a nail-biter, now is the time to break the habit. Practicing good oral hygiene, like brushing twice daily and flossing daily, is also necessary.
