My teeth are crowded. Can I benefit from Invisalign?

Yes. Invisalign is an incredibly versatile treatment.

At Bayside Dental Arts: Andrey Ilyabayev, DDS, Dr. Ilyabayev uses Invisalign to treat mild and moderate alignment problems, including:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Overlapping teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Misaligned jaw

Invisalign can correct bite abnormalities, including overbite, underbite, and crossbite.

What are Invisalign oral aligners?

Invisalign oral aligners are removable appliances that fit snugly over your teeth. They’re made of a proprietary thermoplastic called SmartTrack®. SmartTrack doesn’t contain gluten, BPS, or latex, so treatment is safe for all people, including pregnant women and those with allergies.

Invisalign aligners can correct alignment problems in your upper or lower arch. You wear them 20-22 hours daily, only removing them to eat, brush, and floss.

What does treatment with Invisalign involve?

Dr. Ilyabayev reviews your dental records, asks about your treatment goals, and completes an oral exam. He then orders digital X-rays to assess the alignment of your teeth and jaw.

Next, Dr. Ilyabayev uses an intraoral camera to take digital scans of your mouth. He uploads your scans to a computer-design program. Then he creates a custom orthodontic treatment plan, mapping out the exact movements of your teeth and jaw.

Dr. Ilyabayev sends your treatment plan and accompanying scans to an Invisalign lab. The lab makes a series of custom Invisalign aligners.

During treatment, you visit Bayside Dental Arts every three weeks for checkups. Dr. Ilyabayev monitors your progress at each visit and provides a new set of Invisalign aligners. Each new set applies slightly different pressure to your teeth and jaw, slowly improving their position.

How long does treatment with Invisalign take?

Treatment with Invisalign usually takes 12 months*. But depending on your goals and how severe your alignment problem is, it can take longer. Make sure to attend each appointment and follow Dr. Ilyabayev’s instructions.

Do I need to clean my Invisalign aligners?

Invisalign aligners collect food particles and bacteria like your teeth. To prevent buildup, rinse your aligners in cool tap water whenever you take them out to eat. NOTE: Never use hot water, as it can change the aligner’s shape, destroying its effectiveness.

Dr. Ilyabayev recommends carefully brushing your aligners with a soft-bristle toothbrush before bed.
